Wines from Germany and Austria

Presented by Ewald Moseler

FIRST COURSE ~  Melon Soup

2006 Weissburgunder   ~  Selbach-Oster Pinot Blanc Kabinett dry
Hints of fresh, yellow fruits.  Flavors of ripe apricot and quince.  Elegant with an attractive finish. 100% Pinot Blanc. The wine is dry, medium bodied and a touch of lemon in the finish.  Great with fish!  $20
Alc. 12%; AP 2 606 319 038 07

2007 Wehlener Sonnenuhr    ~  Meulenhof Riesling Kabinett
The Meulenhof wines are crystal clear. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett comes from the blue slate vineyard. The wine has fresh green apple fruit flavors, maybe a hint of pineapple in front and a lively, mineral and perfect balanced fresh lemony finish.  The wine has a light body and compliments lighter dishes with a touch of spice and salt very well.  $17.50
Alc. 8.5%; AP 2 582 038 014 08

SECOND COURSE ~  Tamirand Glazed Pork Tenderloin

2006 Schieferterrassen   ~  Heymann-Loewenstein Riesling
"terroir wine - dry style"
The wine comes from steep blue slate terraced vineyards on the lower Mosel.  Full-bodied and rich with lively finish.  A perfect wine for richer dishes.  $27.50

“The power and the authority of a great Alsatian Riesling with the beautiful floral quality one finds in Mosel. It demonstrated that it is possible to make great dry wine from the Mosel if one is totally uncompromising. That to me is a really heroic accomplishment.”
LOS ANGELES TIMES

“Schieferterrassen: surprising quality, a clear, elegant wine with a delicious minerality and a softness which is extraordinary for this category: a didactic wine for the region's viniculture."
Michel Bettane, La Revue du Vin de France
Alc. 13.5%; AP 1 658 191 13 07

2005 Atzberg   ~  Sighardt Donabaum Grüner Veltliner Smaragd
Gruener Veltliner is the most planted grape variety in Austria. The wine can be light and fresh or full-bodied but has always a peppery spice which brings out the flavor of the food and improves the taste of the dish. Smaragd is always a full-bodied wine and it can by served with richer dishes, even with red meat.  $25
Alc. 13.5%

THIRD COURSE ~  House-Made Venison Sausage

2006 Riesling Spätlese Estate, Vollenweider
Vollenweider is a high rated estate in the Mosel valley. The 2006 Spätlese is made in a traditional style:  fresh fruit, low alcohol and a fresh lemony finish. The wine compliments spicy and salty dishes very well.  $27.50
Alc. 8.5%; AP 2 576 801 09 07

2003 Graacher Domprobst   ~  Selbach-Oster Riesling Auslese
A wine in the same style like the Vollenweider Spätlese. However, with the three years more of age the wine shows more minerality than sweet fresh fruit flavors. The wine is also more compact and fuller and rounder in body. It compliments also spicy and salty dishes.  $26.50
Alc. 8.5%; AP 2 606 319 006 04
